In rapidly-evolving and competitive eCommerce world you have to stay out from the crowd and attract attention. How? By have making things differently! This requires creativity, thus ecommerce entrepreneurs are developing new ideas&techniques and sometimes even make stuff up! Like new words, for example.

Many of these new words are what’s known as a portmanteau, a word that explains a new idea using already existing notions by combining them into a single word. This term is also known as ‘a blend’ in linguistics, but we will not dig very deep into terminology.

Some portmanteaus, such as email (electronic+mail), freeware (free+software), blog (web+log) are widely known and used. Their definitions can be found in dictionaries of modern slang, like urbandictionary.com, where users themselves submit definitions of new words.

Other portmanteau words are appearing almost every day, becoming new trend in all spheres of life. Of course, most of them do not have official recognition as basically anyone can make up new word, but if you start using them yourself, then who knows, maybe soon they might become internationally used!

We have compiled a list of e-coomerce-related portmanteaus. Some of them we have found in the web and others made up ourselves, so hope that you enjoy reading and even use it in your daily life.
